Project Title: FPC Paw Prints Business Laboratory 2.0
Project Dates: 08/08/2021-05/15/2021 Grade Levels:

Focus Area(s) :Career Technical Eduation- STEM- Technology - Business

Abstract:
FPC Paw Prints will be a hands-on “business laboratory” that will be student-run by the entrepreneurship classes. Students will learn how to run a business through a thought-out process, which will include: start-up, receiving, inventory, market research, job interviews, buying and pricing, manufacturing, promotion, accounting and bookkeeping, customer service, managing, selling. The business laboratory will be a student-run school business that will allow students to start by producing t-shirts for the school. It will eventually branch off into other areas of products for the school community. This will be a sustainable school business that will support the entrepreneurship program at FPC, as well as, helping other teams and clubs on campus by providing affordable and quality apparel for the organizations. The profits from the business will be used to support the school business and assist students in attending entrepreneurship competitions through the NFTE and DECA organizations. Yearly students will revamp business opportunities with business plans and add changes to FPC Paw Prints. This can be done through adding innovative and new products they create or looking at areas that need to be changed. Students will be responsible for all aspects of the business laboratory, Paw Prints. There will be specific job roles. Students will have to apply for these job roles and work to maintain success in that position. They will collaborate with other members on the team to successfully produce products for the school community. Students will learn about the production process. Through creating t-shirt designs for a customer and marketing materials for the business, students will be able to practice for the ESB (Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification), which will lead to an ESB certification and 3 college credits with the local state college. The store is a learning laboratory; therefore, it should have the latest up-to-date equipment to train the students. This grant will assist with some of the startups for the business so that it can continuously grow each school year for future students to have the opportunity. Students will take that knowledge from this project and program on to college, with hands-on experience rather than book-driven business concepts. They will know they can run a business in the future. Funds received from the school store will be used to sponsor competitions and scholarships for students.

Proposal:

How is your project innovative?   (25 points)
This business laboratory will be completely student-run. Through this business, we will keep updated technology used in the industry. Students will need to learn how to research and use the equipment, including upkeep. This will include the newest software for designing products, such as Adobe products. Students will need to learn how to use new equipment for making school apparel. Business is an advancing field, so students also have to learn about how supply chains are ever-changing, especially with COVID, and how to overcome these obstacles. This can include finding supplies and online ordering.

How will it fit into your curriculum (include standards)? (10 points)
The Paw Prints business laboratory will cover the Florida state standards for the courses. 7.0 Identify elements of manufacturing and production Identify different types of manufacturing (e.g., custom, mass, continuous, repetitive, intermittent). Identify the elements of product production planning (inventory, human resources, production scheduling). Identify factors that influence the location of a manufacturing business. Discuss the principles of quality management. 8.0 Identify the principles of selling – the student will be able to: Identify ways to satisfy consumer needs. Identify features/benefits of selling. Discuss the principles of selling. Identify the steps of a sale. Identify the stages of selling (attention, interest, desire, action). Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of establishing sales quotas/commissions. Discuss the importance of customer service. Discuss the role of selling via the Internet. Understand the use of social marketing.

How will it encourage long-lasting change in your classroom, school or community? (20 points)
FPC Paw Prints will be a sustainable school business that will be able to run year after year for students to learn and understand the process behind running a real life business. Students will be able to use all equipment year after year for creating actionable items for their business plans. Students will also learn about the entrepreneurial mindset that can be used in setting and following life goals.

How will technology be utilized?  (20 points)
Technology will be utilized through the use of Adobe and other software to prepare designs. We will also use Stahl's online design software to submit designs to the company. For the purpose of selling, students will use an online website called Spirit Sale Stores. This will help us connect with the school community and different sport's teams. Students will have to set this up and continue to maintain the website. Students will also use the online NFTE curriculum to learn standards and prepare for the ESB certification exam.

What evidence will you collect to show student gain?   (10 points)
-Students will start the class/semester with a pre survey that determines their entrepreneurial mindset. Students will take this survey again at the end of the course to determine their growth of an entrepreneurial mindset. -Students will also take a diagnostic test at the start of the class to determine their content knowledge of entrepreneurship. Students will have a progress monitoring test halfway through the course on the entrepreneurship knowledge and end of course exam to see how students have grown on the content knowledge. -Students will complete several progress monitoring tests to show readiness to complete the ESB 1 certification exam. Entrepreneurship 2 students will complete the ESB 1 certification exam.

How will participants share your project results with the community?  (15 points)
Students work with business leaders throughout the year by working with local business/community partners. The local community partners will judge final business pitches presented by students for a final project grade in the class and to prepare for competitions with NFTE (Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship) and DECA.
